Photopolymer etching - Bird Skull I

BIRD SKULL I
Original hand-printed etching from an edition of 6 prints max.
It is printed on Vellum Arches BFK Rives 180grm white paper.
The print itself measures 15 x 20 cm.
This is a photogravure of a collage between two mediums. The first one is a drawing of an imaginary bird skeleton. The second one is a photograph of a piece of tralatane fabric. The whole thing is edited using Photoshop to obtain a black and white file that can be processed to expose a photopolymer plate.

• Drawing the skeleton of an imaginary bird: You created a drawing depicting the skeleton of a bird that exists only in your imagination. This can be done by hand or using digital drawing software.

• Photographing a piece of tralatane fabric: You took a photograph of a piece of tralatane fabric. This material can add texture and visual interest to your final creation.
Digital manipulation with Photoshop: You used Photoshop to edit your drawing and photo. This may include adjustments to contrast, brightness, and saturation, as well as more creative modifications to achieve the desired effect.

• Conversion to a black and white file: You transformed your edited image into a black and white file. This can be done by adjusting grayscale levels or applying a black and white filter in Photoshop.

• Processing to expose a photopolymer plate: Next, you used this black and white file to expose a photopolymer plate. Photopolymer is a light-sensitive material that hardens when exposed to certain wavelengths. By using your file, you were able to create a mask or negative to selectively expose the plate, thus creating an etching.

• Once the photopolymer plate has been exposed and developed according to the specific instructions of the material, you can use it to transfer the image onto a medium such as paper or other materials. This can be done using a printing or pressure process.
